Abstract

969,142. Absorbing radio waves. SIEMENS & HALSKE A.G. Dec. 28, 1962 [Dec. 28, 1961; Sept. 13, 1962], No. 48759/62. Heading H4A. A wall which will absorb electromagnetic radiation is built from a plurality of solid or foamed plastic blocks 1, 2 some of which (2) have two or more of their side faces coated with a layer of a material which has a high resistivity yet is electrically conducting, these blocks 2 being so disposed within the wall that the coated faces form a lattice network. As shown, the blocks 2 have all four side faces coated and constitute each alternate block. Alternatively, all the blocks may have two adjacent or two opposite side faces (Fig. 8, not shown) so coated. To increase the absorption effect two or more walls may be arranged one behind the other, the walls being built from blocks of different sizes. The same effect is obtained if the dielectric constant of the block material increases with distance from the incident radiation and if the magnetic permeability of the blocks is greater than that of air. If low acoustic reflectivity is also required, the blocks can incorporate sound-absorbing substances. Specification 969,141 is referred to.
