Abstract

969,141. Absorbing radio waves. SIEMENS & HALSKE A.G. Dec. 28, 1962 [Dec. 28, 1961], No. 48758/62. Heading H4A. A wall which will absorb electromagnetic radiation comprises a plurality of solid or foamed plastic blocks 2 and a strip 1 of cotton cloth or plastic sheet each impregnated or coated with electrically attenuating resistive particles and interwoven between the blocks in a manner similar to that indicated by the darkened lines. The resistivity of the strip 1 may be arranged to vary across the width of the strip being greater away from the incident radiation. To increase the absorptive effect two or more walls may be disposed one behind the other the cross-section area of the blocks forming one wall being less than that of the blocks forming the wall in front thereof (Fig. 3, not shown), the dielectric constant of the block material may be arranged to increase across the depth of the wall, or the blocks may contain material having a magnetic permeability greater than that of air. Blocks of circular crosssection are also disclosed. Specification 969,142 is referred to.
