[Also in Division F2] A device for damping the reaction forces exerted by the frame of a high-speed metal extrusion press on its bed or foundation and for restoring the stationary part to its original position, after a limited amount of travel, is characterized in that it is compresed of two opposed rams 1 and 2 supplied with a pressurized fluid, whose cylinders 7 are anchored on the bed or foundation 8 of the press and whose pistons 3 and 4 act on the main stationary cylinder 5 of the press, these rams damping the reactions exerted by the movable part of the press on the said cylinder and restoring it to its original position. The cylinders 7 are connected by a system 9 of fluid under pressure which ensures operation of the press in such manner that the rams are under constant pressure. Spring-loaded apertured return valves 10 and 11 control the damping force of the rams by absorbing the shock of movement of the cylinder 5, e.g. in the direction of the arrow 16, and then slowly return the cylinder to its initial position as a reduced flow of pressure fluid is metered through the opening 12 in the valve 10. If the return speed is too fast it is deadened when the cylinder engages the second ram 2.
