Abstract

1330735 Presses for metallic powder MANNESMANN-MEER AG 1 July 1971 [3 July 1970] 30804/71 Headings B5A and B5F An hydraulic press for metallic powders comprises two pistons 2, 6 shaped to define annular spaces 3, 4 respectively, a punch 19 and die 17 connected to pistons 2, 6 respectively and a tapoff valve 7 connected to the die piston 6 via an arm 10 and to the punch piston 2 via mechanical setting devices so that movement of the die 17 depends upon that of the punch 19. The setting devices comprise a lever 8 which is pivoted on the arm 10 and carries a vertically adjustable spindle 16 having a roller engaging a lever 11 which is provided with a roller for engaging a straight edge 15 connected to the punch piston 2 via an arm. The die 17 is provided with a through bore closed at one end by a stop 18 fixed to the press frame 13. To carry out a pressing operation, pressure liquid is fed by a pump and motor M into the cylinder body above the piston 2 which consequently moves downwards as pressure liquid in the space 3 is exhausted through the valve 7 via valves I, II and a non-return valve (not shown). When the straight edge 15 contacts the lever 11, the lever 8 is depressed so that passage of liquid through the valve 7 is restricted or cut-off. This leads to liquid from the space 3 entering the space 4 and movement of the piston 6 and hence the die 17 . downwards. The lever 12 can be slid at right angles to the piston movement in guides 14 so that the velocity ratio of the pistons 2, 6 may be varied. By adjusting the spindle 16 the ratio of the displacement of the punch to that of the die may be varied. After pressing is completed the pistons 2, 6 are returned to their initial positions under the control of valves I, II, III.
