Abstract

967,112. Feeding appliances for poultry. SALOPIAN INDUSTRIES (METALS) Ltd. July 29, 1963 [July 28, 1962], No. 29072/62. Heading A1M. In a poultry battery having a continuous food trough 5 extending along a row of cages, the trough is supplied by means of hoppers 6 supported on a carriage travelling on rails running the length of the battery, the hoppers 6 being supplied from a duct 10 having an opening 11 into the top of each hopper such that the opening is obstructed by the food in the hopper when it rises to a predetermined level. The capacity of the hopper is varied by means of an extensible sleeve 12 positioned around the opening 11 as shown, or by means of a flap hinged above the opening the angle of the flap being adjusted to vary the effective height of food in the hopper before the opening 11 becomes obstructed. Food is conveyed to the duct 10 by means of an auger 22 or a conveyer. The device may be adapted for use in a battery in which the rows of cages are spaced horizontally, the duct 10 then being horizontal and the hoppers 6 horizontally spaced.
