Abstract

964,684. Piston rings. CROSS MANUFACTURING CO. Ltd. July 2, 1963 [Oct. 1, 1962], No. 37069/62. Heading F2T. Piston rings 15 have a cross-section which is a segment of a circle, preferably substantially semi-circular, with the straight line of the segment facing outwardly for contact with the cylinder bore. The rings are housed in grooves 11 in the piston 12 of corresponding segmental cross-section, the depth of the groove being less than the maximum thickness of the ring. The rings may be planar or helical and in the latter case may form a multi-coil helix.
