Abstract

874,145. Pistons. CROSS MANUFACTURING CO. (1938) Ltd. Feb. 18, 1960 [Dec. 21, 1959], No. 43302/59. Class 122 (1). An aluminium alloy piston is fitted with two ring assemblies 2 disposed one on each side of the gudgeon-pin axis and each comprising a bearing ring 3 between two abutting packing rings 8. The bearing ring and packing rings are housed in piston grooves 5 and 9 respectively and the bearing ring is relatively thin radially and its axial length may be at least ten times its thickness which is greater than the depth of the groove 5. All the rings are split and may be of tool steel. In a modification, Fig. 4 (not shown), a ring assembly comprises three packing rings and two bearing rings. Specification 415,322 is referred to.
