Abstract

Resins are prepared by a process which comprises reacting a mixture of an aminotriazine and formaldehyde with up to 1.5 mols. of a monohydric phenol per mol. of aminotriazine, the pH of the resulting mixture being maintained at between 7.0 and 8.0 at the temperature at which the reaction is effected. The phenol may be added to a mixture of or a reaction product of the melamine and formaldehyde. Aminotriazines specified are phenol, cresols and xylenols. Moulding compositions are prepared from the resins of the invention by the addition of cellulose and zinc stearate. The aqueous reaction products may also be used as binders in the manufacture of laminates (see Division B5).
