Abstract

960,660. Article-engaging devices. ENGLISH STEEL CORPORATION Ltd. Jan. 31, 1963 [Feb. 2, 1962], No. 4207/62. Headings B8B and B8H. A stack of billets may be lifted from the stacker described in Specification 960,659 by forks 10, Fig. 1, which are rotated about vertical axes in a frame 1 so that the space between the limbs of the forks decreases to grip the stack and feet 24A, 24B, Fig. 5, attached to the tips of the fork limbs, are moved under the stack. The forks are interconnected by a link 21 and rotated by a ram 23. The beam 1 is guided by vertical grooves in guides 9, Fig. 1, as it is raised and lowered by winches 3 on a travelling boom 4. Each fork is mounted in the beam 1 by bushes and thrust races.
