Abstract
1,251,325. Article gripping devices. R. R. CAMPBELL. 8 Nov., 1968 [8 Nov., 1967], No. 50800/67. Heading B8H. A lifting attachment for gripping the bottom row of a stack of units, e.g. bricks, comprises a frame 10 having two spaced pairs of gripping arms 19, the arms of each pair being pivotally connected to opposed sides of the frame, and movement of the arms 19 of each pair being synchronized for movement through pivoted links 22, 23 and a double-acting hydraulic ram 24. A channel member 20 housing a unit engaging rubber buffer 21 is connected between the lower ends of the arms 19 of each pair, on the same side of the frame. The attachment is connected to a universal coupling depending from a framework mounted on a jib associated with either a crane or the lifting carriage of a lift truck. The universal coupling is rotatable relative to the framework by a double-acting hydraulic ram having a toothed piston-rod engaging a sprocket associated with the coupling, the framework being movable transversely of the jib by a further double-acting hydraulic ram.
