Abstract
In a process for producing coke by the delayed coking process of a hydrocarbon oil, a small quantity of a liquid hydrocarbon, e.g. gas oil from the fractionator is delivered into a line conveying vapours from the top of the coke drum or drums to prevent coke formation in the line. The coking process is as described in Specification 929,007, except that gas oil at 80 DEG to 600 DEG F. in an amount of 0.5 to 10% of the furnace and drum charge rate is delivered to the vapour line, i.e. 50 to 1300 barrels of gas oil per day. The liquid is preferably sprayed into the line, and instead of gas oil, any liquid hydrocarbon ranging from gasoline to residual and thermal tar may be used. Pressures in the coke drums range from 20 to 80 p.s.i. and temperatures from 910 DEG to 925 DEG F.
