Abstract

952.633. Creels; ropes. C.OSTERMANN, and M. OSTERMANN, [trading as W. & M. OSTERMANN [firm of]]. Aug. 25,1960 [Aug. 29, 1959], No. 29453/60. Headings DIJ and DIT. A filament supply arrangement comprises a plurality of spools 27 to 32 rotatably mounted on a common shaft 14 such that the run-off direction of rotation of adjacent spools are opposite to each other, the spools being urged together by brake discs 39, 63 acting on the endmost spools. This arrangement is stated to give equal tension of the filaments being driven from the respective spools. Friction discs 33 to 37 are provided between adjacent spools. The spindle 14 is locked against axial displacement by a slidable locking plate 20 engaging a groove 16 in the spindle 14. To release the spindle 14 the lever 50 is raised to move the brake disc 63 away from the spools, and the plate 20 is displaced to release it from the groove 16. The spindle and spools can then be removed and replaced by a fresh assembly of wound spools. The filament supply arrangment is stated to be suitable for use with cable armouring machines and wire twisting machines.
