Abstract

864,989. Unwinding wire. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. March 3, 1959 [March 7, 1958], No. 7475/58. Class 120(2). Take-off mechanism for a wire spool comprises a pivoted arm 6 having holding-means 5 for a bight of wire tending to rotate the arm in a direction opposite to the effect of its weight, a brake control 10 preventing rotation of the spool and removable by rotation of the arm in said opposite direction, and spring-means 11 for biasing the arm in the direction in which it is urged by its weight. The arm is fixed to a hub 8 rotatable on a pin 9; the hub has two circumferential grooves of different diameters. To one groove is attached one end of the spring 11, the other end being secured to a tensioning-pulley 14. To the other groove is attached the brake band 10 via a lever 16 which is tensioned by a spring 17. When the pulley 5 is raised by increased pull on the wire the band is loosened and vice versa; during normal working a balance is struck between the tension in the wire and the friction in the brake, so that a constant tension is maintained in the wire.
