Abstract

952,443. Cooking in bags &c. GENERAL FOODS CORPORATION. Aug. 31, 1960 [Aug. 31, 1959], No. 29715/59. Heading A4D. [Also in Division B8] An open mouthed bag in which rice or other comestibles may be cooked is made by securing together superimposed edges of a permeable and flexible sheet and incorporating in the secured edges a cord or thread which extends to form a loop by which the filled bag may be suspended. The material may be paper, having perforations 1, and it may be folded to give a closed end 2 and the edges 3 and 4 closed by stitching 6 which extends in a loop 7. The rice is inserted through the open end 5 which is then closed by stitching 8. The rice is cooked by placing the bag in boiling water, whence it may be removed by means of the loop 7 and opened by gripping the loop and tearing the seams along the edges. If the bag is of suitable material the edges may be closed by heat sealing.
