Abstract
951,470. Discharge apparatus. S.A.E.S. S.p.A. May 5, 1961 [Feb. 4, 1961], No. 16349/61. Heading HID. A method of gettering an evacuated enclosure e.g. an electric discharge tube, comprises heating within the enclosure a portion of vaporizable getter material 1, Fig. 3, disposed in a first annular groove or channel in a ring or disc-like member and a portion of unactivated non- vaporizable getter material 2 located in a second groove or channel radially spaced from the first to a temperature sufficient to evaporate the vaporizable material and activate the non- vaporizable material. The heating is preferably effected by H.F. currents travelling on the periphery of the member which is of metal, temperatures between 600‹ and 1500‹ C. being necessary. The unactivated material 2 may be pressed into an aperture instead of a groove, Fig. 2, or located in a groove inwardly, Figs. 3, 6, or outwardly, Fig. 9, of the groove containing the activated material.
