[Also in Division B8] A machine for labelling bottles and like articles having open mouths comprises an endless conveyer having chain links 16, Fig. 4, pivotally interconnected by pins 17, the pins 17 having tips 18 shaped to fit into the mouths of bottles B which are carried to a labelling station I, Fig. 1, where labels on a strip S are applied to the bottles on the pins. As described, the strip S is a heat transfer label strip as described in Specification 862,360 and the labels are applied by the mechanism described in Specification 937,071. The chain conveyer is trained over two sprocket wheels 13, 14, the wheel 13 at the label applying station being mounted on a shaft 22 which also carries a turret 23 recessed to fit the bottles while they are passing the label applying station, during which period the bottles are pressed down tightly on the pin tips 18 by means of presser feet 24. When the bottles are made of plastic or other resilient material, they are inflated in order to resist the pressure of the applying iron I, air being introduced through the hollow pens 17. A projecting lug 47, Fig. 1, engages unorientated bottles and rotates them either on their pins or with the pins.
