Abstract

946,641. See-saws. P. HENRIOD. May 7, 1962 [June 30, 1961; April 4, 1962], No. 17546/62. Heading A6M. A see-saw comprising a beam 1 and a counterweight 19 positioned on either side of an axis 9 located in a fixed support member 12 is characterized in that the beam 1 swings through an arc passing over the axis and the counterweight through an arc passing under the axis. One end of the beam 1 is provided with pivoted seats 3 whilst its other end bears a bar 18 carrying the counterweight 19 and discs 21, which are movable to adjust the balance. The users sit on the seats 3 having adjusted the balance to suit their weight and move through an arc to the other side of the axis, the fall of the beam 1 being damped by springs 28 attached to the ground. In a modification the counterweight is carried by two tubes extending from a sleeve surrounding the axis, the balance being adjusted by means of a telescopic joint formed in the beam. In a further modification the position of the counterweight and thus of the axis of articulation may be adjusted; this may be carried out by means of a handle situated near a seat and a feed screw mechanism.
