Abstract

926,540. Adjustable seats. HALLAM, SLEIGH. & CHESTON Ltd. March 16, 1962 [Jan. 19, 1961], No. 2143/61. Class 52 (2). A vehicle seat has a heightadjustable seat member 1 supported from an underframe 2 through links 4, 5 which move angularly when the height of the seat member 1 is being adjusted, the lower ends of the links being mounted to move forwards or rearwards relatively to the underframe 2 when the links move angularly, and the upper ends of the links being connected to the seat member by upper pivot means 17 cooperating with upwardly-extending guide slots 19 in guide members 18 rigid with the underframe. The lower ends of the links 4, 5 are pivotally mounted on a frame 10 which is slidably mounted for forward and rearward movement in a channel 9 on the underframe 1. The links 4, 5 are angularly adjustable by screw means 23, 24 (Fig. 3) operable upon a cross-member 21 to cause horizontal forward or rearward displacement of the lower ends of the links 4, 5. Counterbalance spring means 27 are provided which cause the links to be biased towards angular movement in a direction to raise the seat member 1. In a modification shown in Fig. 8 the front end of the seat member 1 is supported at each side by a pivot 31 journalled in an unslotted bracket 32 rigid with the underframe 2. Angularly movable rim links 28 are provided which are pivotally connected at their upper ends to the seat member 1 by pivot means co-operating with a slot 29 in a guide bracket 30 rigid with the underframe.
