Abstract

1,011,726. Vehicle seats. J. SCHWARZ. Nov. 20, 1961 [Nov. 21, 1960], No. 41509/61. Heading A4J. In a vehicle seat back-rest, a support for the small of the back is vertically and horizontally adjustable, in a direction normal to the plane of the back-rest, by means of a single control knob 16. The plates 31a are pivotally mounted on a spring strip 32 which is fixed to the lower end of a blade spring 21. The upper end of spring 21 is pivotally and slidably mounted in slot 11 of plate 10. The plates 31a are moved forwardly and rearwardly by turning knob 16, and therewith sleeve 13, to extend or retract bolt 12 whose squared end 22 is secured to spring 21. To adjust the vertical position of plates 31a, the whole arrangement is unclamped and moved bodily along slot 11. To effect this, knob 16 is pressed inwardly, thus engaging screw-threaded ring 14, which is turned to effect clamping or unclamping of the sides of slot 11 between the ring 14 and the collar of squared bush 15. Plates 31a may be padded with foam rubber and have eyes for threading on rubber bands 36 and spring strip 32. The seat and back-rest may be connected for movement together in a vertical direction by bar 26, 27. In another form (Figs. 4 and 5, not shown) the upholstery is carried on a vertically slidable frame. The adjustment knob may alternatively be located at the lower edge of the back-rest (Fig. 7, not shown).
