Abstract

946,153. Removing bottle &c. closures. W. LAYLAND. May 8, 1962 [July 27, 1961], No. 27181/61. Heading B8T. A rotary device for removing screw threaded caps or stoppers from bottles &c., includes an axially bored collar 2 to which is attached by a sleeve 4 an axially bored member 5 with radial slots 7, each slot receiving a jaw 8 with a shaped inner end which engages the cap or stopper when the bottle &c. is urged thereagainst. Each jaw has a shoulder 11 preventing radial displacement inwardly, and a resilient washer 12 is located at the rear of the jaws. A resilient ring 9 holds the jaws in their slots. A closured bottle &c. is urged against the jaws and then moved away slightly so that the jaw edges grip the closure which is immediately unscrewed. The removed closure is urged by successive closures through a hollow tubular member 1 and conducted to a discharge point.
