Abstract

858,959. Container closures. LOHRER, H. Sept. 15, 1958 [Jan. 10, 1958; July 8, 1958], No. 29526/58. Class 125(3). A closure for bottles &c. has a retaining ring 3 integrally connected with a closing cap 6 through a narrow resilient strap 4 having an intermediate U-shaped portion 5, the cap 6 having an outer annular part 8 and bead 10 to fit on the bead 2 of the bottle mouth and a lower annular edge 9 to bear against retaining ring 3. The cap 6 has also a hollow plug part 11 to enter the bottle neck 1 and provided with seating ribs 12. A tear-off strip 15 with gripping tab 16 connects ring 3 and cap 6, a rib 21 on the cap engaging a groove in the tear-off strip 15. The tab 16 is defined by lines of weakness 19 and does not protrude until the stress of applying the closure to the bottle causes the lines 19 to tear. In a modification Fig. 5, the ring 3 is connected with tear-off strip 15 through a narrow annular portion 23 off-set inwardly.
