Abstract

945,468. Ornamenting. F. PAYNE. March 15, 1960 [Dec.16, 1958], No. 40524/58. Heading B6G. A design is produced on a glazed (e.g. white) base by applying to the whole or part of the surface a paint constituted by a synthetic detergent, which may be burnt either before or after application or during the working up of the design to a black colour, and working up the design by a rubbing tool. Dry detergent may be heated over a flame until black, and water and optionally liquid detergent may be added. The paint may be removed and re-applied or replaced by fresh paint, and the design may be finally coated with varnish or shellac. A carbon deposit from a flame may be applied. The paint may also be made by mixing equal volumes of powdered and liquid detergent and adding either a mixture of vinegar and sugar or a mixture of tea and water. The glazed surface may be preheated and a carbon deposit applied from a flame, excess being removed by a brush. A second deposit of carbon may be applied, and colour pigments or paints applied in selected areas. Colour pigments may be washed off by lighter fuel, leaving the carbon deposit. A second application of the paint may be made to the transparent coating over the design.
