Abstract
501,972. Treating asbestos. GRAAFF, S. Sept. 6, 1937, No. 24307. [Class 70] [Also in Groups IV and XVI] Asbestos yarn or fabric is coloured by applying thereto a dry, powdered, colouring matter and thereafter dipping the material in a solvent for the colouring matter, e.g. water, vinegar or gall. In an example, a dry, powdered, " red fast " water paint colour is sprinkled on an asbestos fabric and worked in with a soft brush, any surplus powder is brushed or shaken off, the fabric is immersed in a solution at 38‹ C. of vinegar, diluted with water, dried; again immersed in a similar solution and, while in the solution, pressed to squeeze out any unfixed colour, then dried, rinsed and again dried to obtain a signal red coloured fabric. To provide a glossy surface, hard beeswax may be rubbed on and polished with a brush.
