Abstract

Artificial silk is made to resemble cotton by treating with a mercerizing lye containing a substance having a salting-out action in insufficient quantity to cause salting-out, e.g. alum. The treatment is carried out at elevated temperatures, e.g. 30-40 DEG C. The silk acquires an increased affinity for dyestuffs, whereby mixed fabrics comprising cotton or wool with artificial silk dye uniformly.
