A pneumatic tyre has a carcase of at least one ply of parallel cords having a cord angle of 70 degrees to 90 degrees to the mid-circumferential plane of the tyre, and breaker composed of two pairs of cross-laid parallel cord layers, the cords of one pair having a cord angle of 5 degrees to 20 degrees and the cords of the other pair having a cord angle of 46 degrees to 75 degrees.
