Abstract

869,824. Pneumatic tyres. CONTINENTAL GUMMI-WERKE A.G. June 19, 1957 [July 2, 1956], No. 19269/57. Class 144 (2). A pneumatic tyre comprises a carcase of at least two plies 4, 5 of parallel cords 6 extending between, and anchored to, the tyre beads 3, with a single additional layer 10 of parallel cords 11 disposed between the plies 4, 5 in the crown region of the tyre and extending only over the width of the tread. As shown, crown layers 8, 9 of parallel cords 11 are disposed above and below the carcase plies 4, 5. The cord angle of the carcase plies 4, 5 may be in the range 60 to 90 degrees whilst that of the crown layers 8, 9 and 10 may be 18 to 36 degrees. The cords of the crown layer 10 may extend parallel to, or in opposition to, those of the layers 8, 9. The cords 6 of the carcase plies may comprise portions 6 overlapped in the crown region of the tyre, as shown in Fig. 3. The cords 6 and 11 may be of natural or synthetic textile material, and the cords 11 of the layers 8, 9, 10 lie close together in the respective layers.
