Abstract

944,645. Waveguide circulators. MULLARD Ltd. Aug. 23, 1962, No. 32478/62. Heading H1W. A 3-port E-plane waveguide circulator comprises at least one cylindrical member of ferrite disposed at the centre of the junction with its axis perpendicular to the common E-plane of the junction and making face-to-face contact with the waveguide walls. The member may consist of a single cylinder of manganese-magnesium ferrite extending completely across the junction or it may comprise two ferrite cylinders 3 arranged on opposite walls with an air gap or a cylinder 2 of dielectric material arranged between them. In the construction of Fig. 3, an air gap is arranged in the dielectric cylinder 2. Polystyrene or an epoxide resin may be used for the dielectric cylinders. A magnetic field is applied in the direction of the axis of the ferrite member.
