[Also in Division A4] In a filing cabinet having runners to support a filing tray horizontally, the tray (Fig. 5) supports a folder 20, Fig. 6, provided with a front strip 23 serving as an index strip, and this strip is gripped between the transparent front 18 of the tray and a retainer bar 19 so that it can be seen without withdrawing the tray from the cabinet. The bar 19 is screw-threaded to receive the screw of a knob 27 which passes through the front 18 of the tray. The folder 20 for the papers has a finger aperture 24 in the base 22 so that the papers and the cover 21 can be thrust upwardly, and a similar finger aperture is provided in the base of the tray to coincide with the aperture 24. The folder is retained and held closed on the tray by two side projections 17. The front 18, or the entire tray, can be made of transparent polystyrene, and a rear lip 16 is provided to prevent unintentional removal of the tray from the runners. The cabinet is box-shaped with an open front to allow a series of trays to be inserted, and the two side walls each have two spaced columns of slots arranged in pairs. Each runner 5, Fig. 3, is of moulded plastic or like flexible material and comprises a horizontal strip 6 with a lip 7 to receive one side of the tray, and a pair of vertical lugs 8 which are spaced apart the same distance as the two columns of slots in the sides of the cabinet. The lugs 8 are passed through the slots so that the upper portions 9 bear on the outer face of the cabinet side, so that the runner can be pivoted upwardly, or flexed downwardly. Accordingly, if an over-full tray is inserted into the cabinet on two opposed runners 5, these runners will be flexed downwardly, and the two upper opposed runners will be tilted upwardly to obtain extra vertical spacing. Each runner 5 has two horizontal grooves 11 in each lug 8 so that it can, when removed from the cabinet, be positioned and clamped behind the retaining bar 19 on the tray, the part 6 thus being horizontal to retain folders on the tray.
