A platform type scale, especially of the bathroom type, comprises a base having spaced upward projections, a pair of co-operating levers bearing on the projections and carrying a weight receiving platform, counterbalancing means including a coiled spring, one coil of which is held in contact with an integral knife edge on one of the levers, and a weight indicating mechanism responsive to movement of the levers. In the form shown, levers 19,24, Fig. 3 are mounted on knife edges cradled in V-shaped grooves in posts 15 on the base 10. The platform (not shown) is supported on legs having V-shaped grooves resting on knife edges 14 on the levers. The upper lever 24 is V- shaped and is supported at the base of the V by a boss 26 resting on the lever 19. The lower lever 19 is T- shaped with a cutout 22, and a second cutout aligned with a cutout 23 in the lever 24. The tail of the T is supported by a compression spring 46, one end of which rests on an integral knife edge 51 on the leve 19, the adjacent coil resting against a projection 55 on the lever. The lower end of the spring 46 rests on a triangular block 57, Fig. 4, on the base. A bell crank lever 38 is pivoted to the side 43 of a channel support 34 for the indicating mechanism and carries a bar 44 engaging the lever 19. The lower end of the lever 38 is connected to a rack 37 engaging a pinion on the axle of a disc 35 which extends through the cutout 23 and carries an indicating disc.
