Abstract

942,143. Two-part couplings. AMPHENOLBORGE ELECTRONICS CORPORATION. July 28, 1960 [July 28, 1959], No. 26345/60. Heading H2E. A two-part coaxial plug connector, designed to reduce the voltage standing wave ratio, consists of two sub-assemblies, a body 11 and a core 12, which screw together, having interfitting dielectric inserts 42 and 23 centrally bored to take a central plug contact 32, secured in the insert 23 and having a locating shoulder 33 provided with flats. The body dielectric insert 42 is encircled by a conducting sheath 46, split at its forward end to form a plurality of resilient contact fingers 47 which co-operate with the outer conducting shell 74 of a socket connector 62 (Fig. 2) having a central socket contact 83. The connectors are held in contact by paired lugs 73 on the socket connector shell 74, engaging helically disposed bayonet slots 72 in a rotatable locking sleeve 63 on the connector body containing spring washers 68 for exerting friction between the locking sleeve and flange 53. A sealing gasket 69 is compressed by the rim of the socket connector shell 74, when the two connectors are secured together. Rubber sleeves 91, 92 clip over and cover the junction of the connector with the cable. The method of attaching the cable to the connector is described in Specification 942,144.
