Abstract
<PICT:0941896/C3/1> In a method of cathodically protecting metal pipes, cables or like members for conducting gas, liquid or electrical energy, a sacrificial anode is mounted directly on and in intimate contact with a metal coupling which is inserted in and forms a part of the conducting member. As shown in the drawing a sacrificial anode 3 of a magnesium alloy is cast on to a steel coupling pipe 1. An annular recess is provided at each end of the anode and an inert material such as coal tar enamel or bitumen forms a seal 4 in this recess. The ends of the pipe 1 may be bevelled, screw threaded or flanged for coupling to the steel service pipe line. In an alternative arrangement the anode 3 may be cast or expanded either on to a solid projecting arm of a Tee shaped connecting member or on to a stud which is screwed into said arm.
