Abstract

Pressure sensitive adhesive tapes comprise a water-dispersible backing and a coating on at least one side thereof of a water-soluble, permanently tacky, pressure sensitive adhesive composition comprising (1) one part of the half ester reaction product of (a) a copolymer of vinyl methyl ether and maleic anhydride, and (b) a compound selected from the group consisting of methyl, ethyl, propyl and butyl alcohols and ethylene glycol monomethyl ether, and 92) five to twenty parts of a resinous liquid polyvinyl methyl ether. Specified backings are rope fibre tissue paper and polyvinyl alcohol. The adhesive compositions may be applied from solutions in ethanol or propanol. Tapes coated on both sides may be wound with a liner, e.g. silicone treated kraft paper or polyvinyl stearate coated polyethylene film. The tapes may be used for splicing the ends of paper rolls in continuous printing operations.
