[Also in Group XXIII] A beam comprises square-bar irons 2 disposed in triangular grooves 3 between layers 1 of wood, the grooves being arranged in such a manner in the interengaging faces of the layers that the hypotenuses of the triangles and thus one of the diagonal planes of the bars coincides with the contact plane of the interengaging layer faces. The corners of the grooves have enlargements 7 to assist the gluing of the wood and bars together when pressure is applied thereto.
