Abstract
The invention comprises compounds of general formula <FORM:0938057/IV(a)/1> wherein Th is a 7-theophylline or 1-theobromine radical, Z is a hydroxyl or acyloxy radical and X is a group of formula <FORM:0938057/IV(a)/2> where R and R1 are hydrogen or 2-hydroxy-3-(7-theophyllyl)-propyl, or alkyl, alkenyl, hydroxyalkyl, hydroxyalkenyl, phenyl, phenylalkyl, phenylalkenyl, hydroxyphenyl, or an alicyclic group as such or substituted by hydroxyl, alkenyl or phenyl groupings, or X is a heterocyclic grouping with a nitrogen atom in its ring structure, the group X being attached to the -CH2- group through said nitrogen atom; and their salts; said derivatives not being theophylline bases of general formula <FORM:0938057/IV(a)/3> wherein R and R1 represent alkyl or hydroxyalkyl groups and Th represents a 7-theophylline radical and their acid addition salts; also the preparation of compounds of the invention by (1) reacting an appropriate (b ,g -epoxy propyl)- or (b - hydroxy-g -halogenopropyl)-theophylline or -theobromine with an amine HNRR1 or a heterocyclic compound having an -NH- group, or (2) reacting theophylline or theobromine with a compound of formula <FORM:0938057/IV(a)/4> optionally followed (3) by acylation and/or salt (e.g. hydrochloride, methiodide) formation. The above compounds and salts are medicaments useful as coronary artery dilators and diuretics. Aqueous solutions for injection are mentioned. Specification 896,787 is referred to.
