Abstract
<PICT:0937369/III/1> Aromatic hydrocarbons are separated from non-aromatic hydrocarbons by a liquid-liquid countercurrent solvent extraction at 10 DEG -40 DEG C. with aqueous N-methylpyrrolidone containing 5-25% by volume of water (based on the total volume) and employing as countersolvent a paraffinic hydrocarbon fraction boiling below 60 DEG C., the volume of solvent being 4-8 times and the volume of countersolvent 0,2-0,8 times that of the introduced hydrocarbons. The hydrocarbons are hydrodesulphurised at 2 and a BTX fraction separated in still 3. This is introduced into extraction system 7 containing 20-30 theoretical stages at the 8-18th stage by line 4. The solvent enters at the first stage by line 11 and the countersolvent at the last by line 18. Raffinate and countersolvent are separated in still 12, the countersolvent being recycled by line 14. The extract is distilled in still 10 to recover solvent for recycle by line 11. The aromatics are separated in stills 17 and 22 into benzene (line 20) and toluene (line 24) and intermediate fractions containing olefins recycled to the extraction by line 18 or 26. Part of the extract may be recycled direct by line 15.
