Abstract

In a process for the polymerization of alphaolefinic hydrocarbons containing at least three carbon atoms, particularly propylene, in presence of a catalyst formed by addition of an aluminium alkyl compound to a product (substantially TiCl3) obtained by reacting TiCl4 with a hydride or organometallic compound of a metal of the 1st-3rd Group of the Periodic System, said product is heated at 150 DEG -500 DEG C. and contacted prior to polymerization with an alkyl aluminium compound or an alcohol for at least three minutes. The invention comprises also the catalyst or catalyst component so produced. Specified contacting agents for said product are Et3Al, Et2AlCl, i-Bu2AlH, Pr2AlCl, EtOH, i-PrOH and n-BuOH.
