Abstract
936,966. Electrolytic cells. FELDMUHLE A.G. Dec. 31, 1959 [Feb. 14, 1959], No. 44485/59. Class 41. A metallic current supply lead 1, e.g. of copper, is soldered to a graphite plate electrode 14 and is protected by an inert sleeve 8, e.g. of porcelain, which is spaced from the lead 1 by an annular air gap and is sealed to the plate 14 in a fluid tight manner, e.g. with cement 15, mating portions on the plate 14 and on the end of the lead 1 engaging each other in the manner of a bayonet joint. The mating portions are radial projections on a disc 10 on the lead 1 and on a flange on the electrode 14, respectively. A threaded bush 2 is soldered to the lead 1 to permit axial adjustment of the lead 1 by rotation of a nut 5, a key 4 engaging a groove 3 in the bush 2. The assembly passes through a stuffing-box 13 in the lid of the cell, which may be a mercury cell. Chlorine-resistant cements, e.g. phenolic cements, are used, and the plate 15 may be impregnated adjacent the lead 1 against chlorine and brine.
