Abstract

933,834. Card; wire. T.M.M. (RESEARCH) Ltd. March 6, 1962 [March 21, 1961], No. 10295/61. Class 120 (3) Saw-toothed wire, which is to be helically wound on a carding cylinder, comprises air passages at spaced intervals in the inner edge of the wire. The inner ends of the passages are in the same vertical plane as the teeth so as to communicate with holes in the cylinder surface; the outer ends lead to spaces between adjacent rows of teeth. Wire 10, shown in Figs. 1 and 2, comprises a section 101 in which teeth 11 are formed and a section 102 in which air passages 12 are cut or rebated. The wire, with a spacing wire 14, is mounted directly on the surface of a cylinder 13 so that holes 131 therein align with passages 12 and an air space 15 is provided. As shown in Figs. 3 and 4, the wire 14 is replaced by an abutment 103 on the wire 10 which is recessed on its opposite face to form passages 12. In another embodiment, Fig. 6, the cylinder is clothed by two forms 10 and 171 of toothed strip, the latter having a continuous abutment on each side.
