Card clothing formed of toothed strips has each tooth 2 formed with side faces 4 inclined with regard to a vertical centre line through the tooth. Because the side faces 4 are closer at the tips than the bases, the spaces 5 between the teeth are sufficiently broad at their outer ends to facilitate the removal of fibrous material therefrom.
