Abstract

933,794. Filtering gases. COMMISSARIAT A L'ENERGIE ATOMIQUE. May 5, 1961 [May 17, 1960], No. 16431/61. Class 8(2). A support for a fluid filter cartridge 60, Fig. 1, e.g. for filtering gases containing radioactive dusts, comprises a sleeve 45a having slidably disposed therein a casing 44; for replacement of the cartridges 60 the sleeve and casing 44 are arranged to be moved away from and towards one another to and from a position in which the casing 44 has left the sleeve. The sleeve 45a has integrally attached thereto a second casing 45 and the casing 44 and 45 are respectively slidably mounted on hollow rods 50 and 51 through which the gas passes to and from the filter cartridge 60. The sleeve 45a and the casing 44 have connected thereto guide nuts 37 and 35 which respectively engage right-hand and lefthand threaded parts of shafts 23 and 24 the latter being rotatable through gearing by means of a crank 6. The filter cartridge 60 is constituted by a cylindrical screen 64 having at one end a plain disc 62 and at the other end an apertured disc 61, the screen 64 having disposed therein filter material 63 surrounding a bore 65. To prevent the cartridge 60 from adhering to the casing 44 or the casing 45 during movement of the latter away from one another for removal of the cartridge 60, the hollow rods 50 and 51 are provided with abutment members 74 and 75, and the casing 44 is provided with spring- loaded abutment members 71. When a replacement cartridge is inserted in position and the casing 44 and the sleeve 45 are moved towards one another, the cartridge is centred by engagement with a conical part 76 of the sleeve 45a and wedges 77 disposed within the casing 44. In a second embodiment, Fig. 3, the cartridge 60 is disposed within a sleeve 78 in which are slidably mounted two casings 87 and 88 having integral therewith hollow rods 87a and 88a which are slidingly disposed within outlet and inlet conduits 90 and 89. When the filter cartridge 60 is to be removed the casings 87 and 88 are moved from out the sleeve 78 which then rests upon bearing members 116 and 117; the sleeve has fixed thereto a member 80 having an orifice 83 therein for receiving a holding tool, the orifice having a spring- loaded ball catch for engaging the tool.
