Abstract

The sealing arrangement for radioactive handling equipment described in Specification 994,685 is provided with an extra ring 18 for locking in place the semi-rigid support ring 9 for the seal 13 and its sleeve or glove attachment 17. The locking ring 18 is held in place by a ball or bayonet connection 21 and is manoeuvred by a tool which engages in recesses 22. To renew the seal, the locking ring is removed and a plunger used to eject the support ring and seal into the chamber or glove box while simultaneously placing a new support ring and seal in position. The locking ring may be modified to receive a bayonet connection of the tool. After the support ring has been removed by the tool, an extension may be fitted to the tool and the replacement support ring and seal compressed inside this extension a plunger is then used to push out and replace the original support ring and seal.
