Abstract
933,367. Twist tubes. A. KRUSE. April 3, 1962 [April 4, 1961], No. 12816/62. Classes 120 (2) and 120 (3). A process for simultaneously consolidating and twisting fibre slivers comprises passing a sliver through a small rotating tube F, between pairs of rollers B, C and D, E, so that false twist is imparted by feelers H, attached to the end of the rotating tube F but alternately moved between position I in which the feelers twist the sliver and position II in which the feelers are out of contact with the sliver. The tube F is sufficiently wide and smooth that the tube itself does not twist the sliver. The feelers, preferably two or more in number, are moved, in Fig. 1, into the gripping position by a ring K, and returned by centrifugal force, the ring K being reciprocated by an eccentric drive. The ring may be replaced by a sleeve (Fig. 4, not shown) attached to the inner race of a ball bearing. In a further embodiment (Fig. 2, not shown) the feelers are centrally pivoted, being thrown into the gripping position by centrifugal force and being returned by an intermittently actuated electromagnet. The pivoted feelers may be replaced (Fig. 5) by spring loaded plungers forced into contact with the sliver by a sliding plate W reciprocated by suitable mechanism.
