Abstract

The corrosion of metal surfaces in pickling baths is inhibited by the solution of a tri-thiocarbonate. An acid pickling bath may contain not more than 3.0% by weight of tri-thiocarbonate. The tri-thiocarbonate is dissolved by first forming a liquid concentrate with an organic solvent which is miscible with the aqueous solution. The organic solvent may be isopropanol amine or N-methyl-morpholine, both being soluble in water and may be used where the pickling fluid is acid or dilute alkali (see Group XVIII).
