Abstract

A pickling bath comprises an aqueous mineral acid solution, colloidal sulphur or a compound capable of liberating colloidal sulphur in the bath, and a water-soluble ionizable ferrocyanide. The mineral acid is hydrochloric or sulphuric, the sulphur-liberating compound may be sodium thiosulphate or sodium polysulphide, and the ferrocyanide may be the sodium, potassium or ammonium salt. The bath may also incorporate dextrose, which acts as a reducing agent, and a cationic wetting agent such as an oxyalkylated fatty amine or aldonic acid salt thereof.
