Abstract

929,309. Marine flares. WAECO Ltd., E. H. WHEELWRIGHT, D. J. BONNESS, R. H. McDONALD, and G. W. CURTIS. Feb. 3, 1961 [March 21, 1960], No. 9865/60. Class 9 (2). A smoke generating pyrotechnic device for marine purposes, comprises an outer casing 10 of a resin-bonded paper or fibre material, which houses a charge 11 contained in a metal tube 11a. A perforated nylon tube 13 extends through the charge. The lower end of the device comprises a water-activated cell at 19, a fuze at 20, and a combustion initiator at 21, the compartments being separated by seals 17 and a perforated disc 12. The upper end consists of baffles 23, whose apertures 24 are closed by rupturable seals 24 of polythene &c. Floats 26, supporting lights 28, maintain the device upright. In another arrangement the igniting means is positioned at the top of the device.
