Abstract

927,876. Centrifugal separators. ASSOCIATED PORTLAND CEMENT MANUFACTURERS Ltd. Oct. 20, 1961 [Oct. 21, 1960], No. 36282/60. Class 23. In a classifier the particles are classified in a rotary classifying zone 15, 22 through which the air flows inwardly and in which the flow crosssectional area vaires inversely as the radius and the air flow prior to entering the classifying zone is approximately parallel to the axis of rotation of the zone. In the double cone classifier shown in Fig. 2, the zone 15 is formed between rotary plates 12, 13 enclosing radial blades 14 and the rate of air flow is adjustable by a sleeve 16 controlling openings 6 and movable vertically by screws 17 operated by handles 18. The inlet 21 of the classifier shown in Fig. 3 receives the flow from a grinding-mill, the oversized particles rejected from the zone 22 being discharged by a return conduit 23 and the fine particles passing through the zone being discharged through a duct 24 which may be connected to firing equipment. In a modification, Fig. 4 (not shown), the upper plate is axially adjustable to vary the effective height of the classifying zone.
