Abstract

866,638. Impact pulverisers; centrifugal separators. STURTEVANT MILL CO. Oct. 23, 1959, No. 35986/59. Classes 23 and 59 An impact pulverizer comprises a casing 4 having a feed inlet 6 for introducing coarse particles of material thereinto, pulverizing means comprising sets of bars R, R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>11</SP> mounted on a rotary shaft 12 and interposed sets of stationery bars S, S<SP>1</SP> secured to the casing 4, a fan 20 secured to the upper end of the shaft 12 for causing the particles to travel upwardly in a helical stream to a discharge outlet 10, and classifier means comprising rotary blades 50, 52 and conical deflectors 54, 56 for restricting passage to the outlet 10 of particles of a predeterminedsize, the casing being provided with a rubber or like lining 40 having vertical ribs 40a, 40b arranged to deflect particles travelling in the said helical stream and cause them to be displaced radially inwardly into the path of the said' rotating bars. The stationary bars are of square or rectangular cross-section so as to present flat surfaces for deflecting the particles upwardly and downwardly into the path of the rotating bars. Air is drawn in by the fan through an opening 25 in the base of the casing through a valve-controlled passageway.
