Abstract

927,087. Rollers. UNITED STATES STEEL CORPORATION. Feb. 26, 1960 [March 24, 1959], No. 6881/60. Class 42 (2). [Also in Group XVI] A roller for centring a strip travelling over it comprises two coaxial cylinders, each supported at its outer end by means permitting deflection of its inner end, and means to limit this deflection arranged coaxially within the cylinders and spaced apart from them at a distance which is adjustable in order to vary the maximum deflection of the cylinders. Each cylinder is linked to a ring 10 by a universal joint 8 of the type described in Specification 927,086, which is adjustably located on a sleeve 6. Each sleeve is adjustably located on a shaft 34 and has a frustoconical end 32 which lies within a bushing 28 on a web 26 of the corresponding cylinder to limit its deflection. The maximum deflection may be varied by adjustment of the sleeve relative to the cylinder. In a modification (not shown) the inner end of each cylinder has a frusto-conical inside surface and each sleeve carries a cooperating radial web or flange.
