Abstract

926,157. Invalids' chairs. F. E. R. HOOPER. June 30, 1961 [June 30, 1960], No. 22918/60. Class 52 (2). An invalid chair comprises a seat part 14, a linkage to which the seat part is secured and means to adjust the linkage such that the seat part israised and carried forwardly, in the direction the sitter faces, and at the same time, is tilted to raise the back of the seat part to bring the sitter to an upright position. The linkage is adjusted by an hydraulic pump 17 and a double-acting jack 18 with a fluid reservoir 19 interconnected by pipes 20. The pump 17 is manually actuated by a lever 21. The linkage comprises a base frame 23 secured to panel 15 and comprises two link systems each of trapezium form. One link system raises the seat part 14 upwardly and forwardly and consists of a pair of spaced links 24, 25 pivoted to a horizontal swinging link 26 which is pivoted at 37 to the base frame 23. Another link system which tilts the seat part 14 about its front edge consists of a pair of spaced links 32, 33 pivoted near the front of the base frame 23 and connected to a cross-link 34. The links 24, 34 are both pivoted at 27 to the seat part 14. The two link systems are interconnected for simultaneous adjustment, a cranked lever arm 35 being pivotally located by struts 38, 39 and pivotally connected to a pivoted joint 40 of the jack 18 and link 36.
