Abstract

1436940 Foldable chairs G M PERRY and J PEATMAN 31 July 1973 [1 Aug 1972] 35785/72 Heading A4J [Also in Division B7] A collapsible wheelchair comprising a seat 6, a pivotally mounted backrest 1, a pair of front legs 11 pivoted to the seat, a seat base support member connected to the seat by a vertical pivot 7, and a pair of rear legs slidably mounted on rails 16 on the base support member for movement fore and aft of the wheelchair, the rear legs normally being biased to the rear by springs 23. The chair is designed to facilitate movement of a person to and from bed. In use, Figs. 2 and 3, (not shown) the rear legs are engaged with the bed and urged forwardly against springs 23 so the seat base overlies the bed, the front legs are released from a bracket 10 and pivoted upwardly and the back 1 is lowered. The seat is then rotated about pivot 7 and the person transferred. The front and rear legs have pivoted lower sections normally held in the operative position by sliding collars 18, the legs being foldable along with the backrest and arms 4 to allow collapse of the chair, Fig. 4, (not shown).
